Bangkok Trip 23 - 27 August 2008

D1: Changi Airport. 6am flight.. Reached BKK at 810am. Checked into hotel and set off to Platinum Mall
Our bed... Changed a total of 3 rooms during our 4 night stay.. Long story.. But generally the hotel The Residence Rajtaevee is quite good and cheap. Cost $20/ person/ night. Thanks to Fan's reco.

Lunch at A&W. Ate a waffle chicken ... A bit interesting but very hard to hold as the waffle turns soggy after a while...

Yummy food.. The one in orange is tom yum flavour while the one in yellow is sweet.. Nice. Cost about S$0.50 for each.

Me and my purchase for the day.. Happy...

This is our transport to get from The Residence Rajtaevee to Siam Paragon...

Dinner at Coca Resturant. cost about THB250 for an hour buffet... However still prefer the one in Singapore... More variety.. though much more expensive.

Group photo taken at Siam Paragon.

D1 Purchases

D2: Chatuchak, MBK and Massage

Fan and Qi at the roadside stall...

Lunch at one of the road stalls... very nice though and cheap. Cost only THB30 (= S$1.5) though serving portion is a bit small...

yummy... Bought it at the train station...

Xian managed to master the art of changing!!! And Qi is so happy with it...

Their purchases for the Day at Chatuchak... Small bags....

Matching big bags... Notice our bags are much bigger than the above. Chatuchak is good for shopping guy tee shirts. Bought 3 for ED... Opened only on weekends...

Health land Spa at Ekamai station. About 20 mins walk from the station. But it is very good and cheap. Did a 60min foot massage at THB 250 (=S$11).. pity it is a bit far from us and the station. Anyway thanks Jaxine for the recommendation.

Dinner at Bar B Q Place at MBK top floor.. Not bad...Fan's favourite...

D2 Purchases

D3: Palace, Siam Paragon and Platinum Mall

On board the ferry to see the Palace... Cost THB 300 for unlimited rides on the ferry.

Palace...

Love this building. European style buildings with Thai Roof tops.. lovely.

Snacking at Siam Paragon..

Some glutinous rice ball wrapped in lettuce with shallot and green chilli. Interesting but not very nice.

Tom yam soup for dinner at the food court 6th floor of Platinum. not bad.. Though I still love the one at Thai Express.

Xian and Qi... Compare their bags with the ones below...

Yeah, fan and I won! As usual, the two of us got the biggest bag... Notice that we shopped until platinum mall closes?? Hehe.. Anyway it closes quite early at about 8pm.

Dessert at Swensen... Relatively cheaper than Singapore. About S$5 for an ice cream.

D3 Purchases

Chips to tide us through the night.

Our night activities in the room... Do not stay in room 302.. The aircon is not working. Poor Fan and Qi has to brace the hot air. Luckily Xian and I slept in 304.. Still not so bad though the aircon not very fantastic.. However the LCD screen tv compensate for the shortfall.

Love this.. The cheaper alternative to Erdinger beer... Cost only S$1. Prefer this to the Light version.

D4: Shopping and massage
Pratunam Center, Big C, and the shopping center opposite Platinum Mall (Quite a nice place to shop also. Sells cheap denim stuff)

A typical breakfast... Buffet breakfast is included in our hotel package.
Lunch at Fuji Restaurant... Decent price... $10 for a bento set. All of us cant finish our food.. but still we are happy with our food.

Xian and Fan at the restaurant...

Me and Qi

D4 Dinner at The Pizza Company.. Taste not bad.. though the filling is a bit little.

After dinner, Qi and I went for a thai massage at our hotel. 90 mins for THB 600. Not too bad..

D4 Purchases

Party at night... The cocktails only cost S$2 while the beer cost about S$1. Played card games till 4am in the morning.. Tired but fun...

Last Day 28 Aug
Shopping at Platinum Mall... Our favourite shopping place. We have been there 4 out of our 5 days in Bkk.
All our luggages... Incredible...

Booked a limousine cab at THB800 (= S$40) to drive us back to the airport..

D5 Purchases

At the airport.. Reminds me of the movie "The Terminal"

Last group photo taken on board the flight...
Total Expenses
Airticket: S$150
Hotel: S$83
Insurance: S$21
Food expense: S$80
Transport: S$30
Shopping: S$540
Total: S$ 904

16 Aug 08 Night Cycling

Set off on the park connector and covered a distance of about 40km from East coast park - Selegie- Bedok - Tampines - Pasir Ris - Loyang - Changi - East coast park...

First time tried cycling long distance instead of running.. Much more comfortable though my hands were a bit numb near the end of the journey. The last 8km (which we thought) along the coastal park connector was monotonous as it was a gruelling straight road with no slopes at all.. (We all unanimously enjoyed the breeze when cycling downslope)
Our last stop was the coastal park connector, a 8km ride back to east coast park from Changi. However we did not factor in that there was at least another 5km to cycle back from the extreme end of ECP back to the bicycle shop...

Route maps for park connector... I must say that the route is pretty clear. Well done!

Ed caught this stitch for me for those toy catching machine... Love both of them. Very sweet of him...

Group photo before the ride... Set off at 945pm....

Our first park connector... and we are pretty in much for a surprise soon....

Faint.!!!!! Staircase... Luckily, I managed to see that there is an edge for us to push up the bicycle.. BUT.... I still dont have strength so the guys helped me out. Thanks!

I am only acting to push the bike up for photo taking purposes only..

Second park connector... Another group photo...

Another one more to go.. Still keeping wide awake. About 12 midnight...

Posing for a photo at Bedok Reservoir park near the fish catching area... Very peaceful and cooling...

Me posing one last photo at Bedok Reservoir park before heading off to Loyang. Nothing much along the way...

A snap to show we are reaching Tampines... Passed by Tampines Mall.. Then head to pasir ris and reached downtown east..

Resting point.. hAd supper at Mac before continuing our journey...The ride along Changi was a bit creepy... Not advisable to do it alone... I did not know that the Changi exhibition center is along a private road and closed... (Ed and I were there for the last year real run. Pretty nice place. Unlike typical singapore with tall skyscrapers)

Our last 8km.. This was all that we saw along the way.. A never ending straight route....

Tada... We finally reached back ECP at about 5am. Ed and I had a sumptuous breakfast.

What about the other 2.... There they are.. Too tired to eat... A fun trip with you all! Will love to do it soon. Maybe make it a monthly event???
